Visit Ghana 2022: Washking

example of a toilet house done by Washking

During our previous meeting in Accra we a couple of local entrepreneurs during a brainstorm in the Ghana Innovation Hub. Among them was Dieudonne Kwame Agudah, the founder of Washking. When we returned to Ghana, we met again.

Washking is about 6 years old and in that time they build about 600 toilet houses. This will double by half of 2023, mainly in the area of Kumasi. In total about 30.000 toilet are needed. With this scale the (availability/price of) concrete will be an issue just like the speed of construction. With unibrick there’s always enough source material and the construction can go much quicker.

Washking has developed a lock that works with a personal pass, so only members can use it. This creates a clear businesscase and a controllable user set per toilethouse. This stand-alone solution has some nice parallels with unibricks franchise approach.
